An exhaust heat shield is a protective cover that fits over the bike’s exhaust pipe or muffler to reduce heat transfer to your legs, boots, and nearby body parts. It’s usually made from stainless steel or coated aluminium, which can handle high temperatures while keeping the surface cooler to touch. The shield also protects the exhaust from scratches, rocks, and debris during off‑road riding. Most heat shields are bolt‑on accessories designed to fit the KLX 230’s exhaust shape, so installation is straightforward. Besides safety, it gives the bike a clean, finished look and can prevent accidental burns when you’re near the exhaust.
